    Gardening tips for:
    • All Snowy (polar) biomes
      • I would recommend going with something that is naturally very cold-hardy in real life (spruce, fern, birch). If you really want flowers, I would suggest going with poppies and dandelions, as these are native to a wide variety of biomes, including this category of biomes.
    • All Cold (subpolar/boreal) biomes:
      • Again, you should be very careful choosing your plants, as the higher elevations do get snow, and even the lower elevations have a dull blue foliage color due to the cold. Therefore, I would recommend the same tips I did for the Snowy (polar) biomes, with plants native to Cold (subpolar/boreal) biomes also being OK/decent. Growing huge mushrooms in a Mega Taiga would be easy due to the large amount of podzol generating naturally.
      • You should be especially careful in Extreme Hills as these very commonly have stony areas and snow-covered mountaintops. If you're looking to make an Appalachian Rainforest style garden, I would recommend going with a relatively hilly Forest or Roofed Forest biome, as the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina do not have glaciers and haven't even during severe ice ages.
    • Plains:
      • If you want trees, I would recommend going with:
        • Acacia, Jungle, or Oak Trees if the Plains borders any Deserts, Mesas, Savannas, and/or Jungles.
        • Oak, Spruce, Birch, and Dark Oak otherwise, unless you're near the coast (in which case Jungle but not Acacia would do well)
      • All types of flowers would do well here depending on the case. I would recommend going with the non-tulip native flowers (Poppy, Dandelion, Oxeye Daisy, Azure Bluet) if you want a more casual look, tulips if you want more of a Spring feel, and Alliums and Blue Orchids should be mixed in if the Plains borders a Desert, Savanna, Mesa, or Jungle to give it more of a tropical feel.
      • Ferns would not look too great here, as Ferns in real life prefer humid, shady conditions, and Plains usually tend to be more of a dry and sunny biome. The exception to this is if it is mostly surrounded by densely wooded biomes (Jungle, Roofed Forest, Mega Taiga)
    • Forest (including Roofed Forest):
      • What plant types you use would dramatically depend on the style you're aiming for.
        • If you want an Appalachian Rainforest style garden, I would recommend every type of flower (even Alliums and Blue Orchids), Ferns, plenty of Vines, and Oak, Spruce (both small and 2x2), Jungle (both small and 2x2), Birch, and Dark Oak trees. Dead bushes would look terrible in this garden style due to the very lush nature of temperate rainforests in humid subtropical regions, but mushrooms (both small and huge) would look terrific as many species of fungi are native to this rainforest.
        • If you want a simple woodland retreat, I would recommend going with Dark Oak, Birch, and possibly 2x2 Spruce Trees, and Poppies, Dandelions, Ferns, Mushrooms, Rose Bushes, Lilacs, and Peonies for small plants.
        • For a Land of Flowers (this can apply to Florida, Holland, Netherlands, or North Ireland) garden, it's wise to build in a Flower Forest, and introduce Sunflowers and Blue Orchids to further diversify.
        • For a casual garden in a regular Forest, Ferns, Poppies, Dandelions, Oxeye Daisies, and Azure Bluets would give a more casual, temperate feel.
    • Jungle, Beach, or Swampland:
      • These biomes would be best for a tropical or aquatic style garden.
        • Tropical gardens should contain Jungle and Acacia Trees, Vines, Ferns, Alliums, Sunflowers, and Blue Orchids at the very least. Cacti and Chorus Plants would also add a nice touch if you use them carefully.
        • Aquatic gardens would do well with Lily Pads, Blue Orchids, Oak and Jungle Trees, and Vines.
    Dry/Warm (dry tropical):
    • Savanna
      • My recommendation for this is to just gather some native plants and use them in a nice mixture, unless you know of a Desert or Mesa nearby, in which case you could also gather some sand or red sand to plant Cacti and Dead Bushes on, and gather the plants themselves.
    • Other Dry/Warm (dry tropical) biomes
      • Again, I would recommend gathering native plants and using them in a nicer mix, unless you know of a Savanna nearby, in which case you could gather those plants and some dirt for extras.
    • WARNING: For The Nether, you will have to gather ALL plants from the Overworld.
So, what do you think of this guide? Sorry that it's extremely long, but it had to be.
  2. Nice, I'll have to try some of these combinations out :)

  3. I forgot that Ferns (and their double-height variant) are native to a Snowy (polar) biome, which is Cold Taiga. Added to OP.
  4. This is great We3. It's great to see how active you are on the forums, I just wish you would be more active ingame ;)

  5. Interesting... A totaly differet way of doing build guides as what I'm used to. Good Idea though: I tend to mainly focus on how to make custom trees and such, but a guide on how to make a simple landscape (using vanilla trees and plan grass as a ground cover) also is interesting. It might be way more usefull for people who aren't looking for the best of designs, but just want something to be there. Actually: I usually spend a lot of time on my landscaping, it might be fun to try and develop some styles you can really, really quickly do. :)
