Aikar why do you break vanilla aspects of the game.

  1. Aikar without mojang releasing updates without any bugs or focusing on them you could just focus on the custom parts of emc people have been waiting for i joined over 2 years ago still waiting for dragon tombs and some have been eaiting over 3 or 4 years so probably wait on the "bugs" do dragons tombs then the "bugs". 8nstead of fixing tiny things that make the community mad at you why not score some points and do something people have been waiting for since they may have joined
  2. i think that the whole idea of "some players cant build or use farms so it makes it unfair" is just utter nonsense. there is many MANY public farms out there for just about every resource the iron economy wasnt deflated from one user it was deflated from there being 20 public farms that many people can use and who we as a community kept up with and fixed when griefed.

And thats the one aspect that makes the quoted statement nonsense. This is a survival community. it isnt rare to go oh i need iron and if you are a trusted member of the community for someone in town chat to go well do you know where _____ farm is?

farms also generally dont directly inflate the economy but rather bring in abundance in the town setting making it easier for those town builders to get cheap goods and make those colossal masterpieces you see everywhere.

    Finches builds? impossible without farms
Fathcasters and eclypsis builds? impossible without farms

aikar you need to remember that people cannot build in town without "farmers" bringing in goods whether through afking or not. nerfing farms any further then the afk system is forgetting that principle.
  3. Emc seems to fit this quite well

Im assuming EMC would have fallen into this territory if it didn't have poor development, lack of updates that impacts gameplay, disgusting "graphic design," hypocritical staff, fanboys/girls, and a whole bunch of other reasons.

You do realize what I gave was a list of servers that are superior to emc and can fix bugs and probably even this one right?

  5. Fixed as in? No XP or no XP & drops? I use dogs in one of mine. Again not for XP specifically but more for it to run while I do other things.
  6. I think I can answer that (famous last words perhaps): No XP.

The whole current issue with those farms is gaining XP while being afk, not about gaining the drops.

  7. Hey man I respect your opinion and your right to express it, but just saying, if you feel like EMC is not the place for you and you believe that there are better servers out there, no one is holding you back.
I'd just like to ask you not to be rude, please.
  8. I'm just proving a point as we all are
  9. Hoo boy, this is a topic I had been thinking about for a while...

I understand where Aikar is coming from with ridiculous AFK XP farms. (I'm pretty sure one of the reasons going on top of the Nether is blocked is because of how easy it is to make a gold farm up there that produces loads of XP while you AFK) Personally, I don't care about the XP leaderboard since it's my understanding that people on the top have a good farm for XP they use. I have nothing against people who make XP farms. This is just my opinion.

Really, I believe the reason XP farms have become a necessity in vanilla is simply this: Going out and fighting mobs normally would take forever to get level 30 enchantments. This was even more of an issue back in the level 50 days, but that was overshadowed by the fact that the max level of 50 could barely be seen on an enchanting table in the first place.

Honestly? Enchantments aren't worth going out and spending an hour killing thousands of mobs for. I understand there has to be some challenge in the game, but... most enchantments are not worth the tediousness of getting XP in the "intended" way. I understand that having enchantments be too overpowered would not be a good thing, but let's be honest, enchantments need to be worth the effort. I'm not sure how possible this would be, but my thinking was that enchantment power/effectiveness (the term is subjective, I suppose) should be boosted so that people who enchant at the highest level possible get rewarded for their efforts. For example, level 30 enchants could give you up to level 10 enchantments on tools/weapons (so, sharpness, bane, smite, efficiency, power; fortune and unbreaking could go to level 5-6), and up to level 7-8 enchantments on armor (protection, fire protection, blast protection, projectile protection, and feather falling). Yes, this would mean that XP farms would have to be nerfed severely yet again to prevent easy enchantment farming... but when you want the value of enchantments going up, what can you do? Personally, I'd say only the most dedicated players would be able to stockpile these higher-level enchantments, but I'm not a person who goes out of his way to build super huge farms, so I can't say for sure.

I'm also aware that XP (from mobs, anyway) is boosted for higher difficulties, though I'm playing at difficulty 7 and don't notice any difference. Perhaps the rewards get significantly better on 8+? I'm not willing to play on such a higher difficulty level until I'm very well established, so I have no experience with this.
  10. Nope, you weren't proving a point. That requires, in most cases, proven facts. You were giving out your opinion on the server, in a way that clearly came out as rude.
  11. I think a perfect example of a place without farms is what we see here already. How many times do you see a new thread pop up about a bulk service started and then how many of them are gone days-weeks later. It's just too much to keep up with and you get burned out.

I have no issue at all with no XP while afking. Was actually surprised it wasn't taking out already. But this 'farms are bad' idea is not valid on a server this size.
  12. Yet that's merely someone's opinion who just happens to be Aikar. It's not an opinion he's acting upon, at least that's my impression of it. If he were then farms would have been nerfed completely.
  13. I believe I did provide facts in my claim or rather the opinion of many

  14. Players should not be able to AFK overnight and come back with 300+ levels: I agree.
Players should not be allowed to build farms, even if they decide they want to put months/years of effort into them: I strongly disagree.

  15. Baaa.

I didn't bother to read through the entire thread here so....

    Some quick points:
1 - Why argue with Aikar?
2 - Development of a system of EMC's size is not a cookie cutter job.
3 - Everything you need to 'build' can be gotten in /waste for very cheap.
4 - XP can be received many different ways - both in-town and 'out'.
5 - Many players, including myself, try hard to find ways to 'break' the economy. The econ. does NOT define EMC.
    7 - There is no 6.
  16. Small critical comment on my end: It seems some players are all talk but when it comes to taking action it falters a bit.

So as suggested above I created a poll about this change to allow everyone to share their opinion there by voting. One comment: keep the discussions out of the poll thread to make sure things remain unbiased.

Sure: there are no guarantees that Aikar will act on its results. But since when does that have to stop you from asking the community what they think anyway? Wasn't this a community thing to begin with?

Anyway... Poll runs for 2 weeks, and I'll even be sure to bump it every once in a while.
  17. Ive said it multiple times now, and going to close with, we will not be intentionally nerfing the existing farm mechanics that require player interaction for xp, nor are we going to intentionally target item farms.

The only thing that is new here is the concept of gaining xp while afk and no interaction has been fixed.

There's really nothing to say further.

We've had this debate like a year ago.... Nothing changed since then outside of this one specific element.

  18. Guys I really think you should drop it and put it in a PM, or just completely drop it. It's getting out of hand. Be glad you CAN play on this server for free, and just have fun doing it.
