Aikar why do you break vanilla aspects of the game.

  1. I haven't seen one of these threads in a while, and boy is it a good one.

Personally, I just want that damn teleporting wither to be removed. It was uncalled for.

  2. I don't see how fixing a vanilla bug == chocolate, which is what started this thread.
So, a person with limited would spend 3 months collecting resources and building a farm, to then produce a single resource output, to take back to town to sell in a flooded economy where you can not ever reasonably sell everything you produce at a good price.... just to then have rupees to buy other needed items to build something else?

This is pretty insane and inefficient way of going about things.

    Let me propose an alternative.

Figure out what you need to finish your project.
Make efficient use of your time while playing by grouping up or attending group events where you get perks such as dig speed, and the survival benefits of comrades to avoid death.

maximize collection of resources that you need (do you need stone, wood, obsidian, sand, lava, water?)

    build....

Now, you can make progress on your build even before that 3 month farm is even finished, and you can know your being super efficient and only working on the highest need at the time.
Collect those diamonds to sell to shops to then buy more items, and sell the other resources harvested while mining that you don't need for rupees to buy the items you do need.

Or find another high demand item in a mall that needs stocked, and go target that item to stock it and then use the rupees to buy what you need.

There's no time wasted. No trying to sell overstocked items for dirt cheap prices

This plan makes so much more sense than trying to build a farm when you're a limited time player.

I've said my mind on this topic. I'm leaving it at this.
Go shoot some cupids bows now everyone. I'm going to watch TV.
  3. Mojang doesn't focus on servers as aikar says. so why punish him for fixing exploits that mojang will fix eventually? doesn't make sense.
    Exploits=Bugs=Fixing
Aikar is aiming to fix exploits that overflows EMC economy that are cause by bugs(like the ago pigment farm that he fixed)

BTW, you are playing on a MULTIPLAYER server, that means that there a many players. Aikar was to make that clear by making boost to groups and that stuff. and lowering drops that you can do in SP like farms...

I agree with aikar, there should be no xp reward for no effort. but i also support farms, but diversify! (don't build a gold farm that is for both items and xp, if you want gold build a gold farm, if you want xp, build a cobble darkroom that takes 5min to build, wait 2 mins and you have XP(by killing mobs inside), it isn't that big of a deal...

This is just MY OPINION, i can't be wrong because is mine! muahaha, but seriously don't quote me to discuss about topic it gets(Will) get tedious)
  4. I dislike farms as well (I guess 2 people is a we, right? Or is my opinion invalid since I don't participate in the economy?). They're the reason why many items have ridiculously low prices. However I don't think they shouldn't exist, smaller farms for personal supply are fine. It's the crazy 1 DC of items per game tick that I think damage the economy.

Complaining about not being able to AFK while getting gold and XP is silly. It's very clear that it's a game mechanic that should not exist.

Also, the enchantment market as a whole has been bad since the introduction of anvils and lowering max enchantment level to 30. After that, we had the 1.8 update which helped make it even worse.
  5. thats a lot of likes on the op

  6. We're not hunter and gatherer players that hunt and kill mob to mob... We're engineers. Thinking of ways that others aren't thinking of.
  7. And to seal the deal, here is a CONFIRMED bug report on Mojang that this behavior is a bug:

    https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-56653

So, as I said, this is a bug and not intended for Vanilla.
Been over a year since it was confirmed.

  8. No.

Judging by the thread, it looks like you are the one who needs to be shooting Cupid bows.
  9. tldr
  10. As an engineer IRL (Day job and EMC and all personal things I do)... Engineers know to account for change, and adapt.

Seriously, i'm closing laptop to go watch TV now.
  11. If Mojang did really care about this bug, it would already been fixed.
  12. Yeah but thats a ticket thats over 2 years old. If they cared about it that much, they would've implemented the 'fix' back in 1.5.

  13. When does Mojang do things right? Thats the joys of being as experienced as their development team. I don't have to wait for anyone.

  14. I understand know either its your way or the highway. You want people to play the way you do an not play there way.

  15. You could say this about many mechanics that people use for their builds on farms.

    - If my memory serves me right, which it does, when the server was updated to 1.8+ it broke all obsidian farms. Before that, there was a bug where you could build an obsidian farm that would convert string or redstone to obsidian.
    - There is also a current bug with shifting floors. Where mobs can pass through full blocks on shifting floors, in the right circumstances. This is being corrected in 1.9.
    - You can currently gain exp by letting dogs kill skeletons for you at a skeleton grinder... while just standing there...not hitting the mobs yourself.

This is just to name 3. There are quite a few more that are common place and "exploited" by just about anyone building a farm.

If you wish to correct an issue that you do not agree with on your server, then don't try and tell the populace it is because there is a bug being corrected. As you stated, you do not like afk farms. It's simple as that.

Now, that is where my personal HUGE issue lays. Minecraft is an open sandbox game. Even in all the EMC adverts we have on the Server lists, EMC advertises as "French Vanilla" and "Play your way". How can EMC, in good faith, advertise itself as a "just outside vanilla" or "play your way" when slowly but surely automation is getting eradicated.

Some people, especially myself included, specifically play minecraft to learn the system and learn to abuse it (within the full lines of the rules). We look to build the large redstone machines that can fully automate ANY activity. We learn the mob spawning system better than the majority the staff themselves here on EMC so we can fully optimize any builds that we build.

Instead of celebrating these players, we consistently get punished. No... we don't get kicked or banned. But updates are thrown in to break farms we spent countless hours researching, developing and building. Enraged farms are an example of this. I know custom mobs mobs were never intended to be automated on EMC, but some of us figured out how. Then... these farms get patched into decoration. I now have 2 MASSIVE farms on 2 different smp's that are nothing but paperweights.

But... we let it go... because we get told "tough".

So yea, I have a huge moral problem with that.

Instead of telling people it's "Play your way" or it's "vanilla plus", at least be honest with people. "Play the way I think the game should be played".
  16. No company is perfect. Especially yours.

Also, the majority of this comment basically does nothing except flaunt your ego.
"I'm experienced so I don't need your opinion on anything LOLOLOLOL

EDIT: No reply to my other tl:dr comment I made and literally spent a while typing up.

You really do have a knack for making something people spend a while on worth nothing, huh?
  17. they don't care because faction servers like EMC use it. This isn't a faction server! But that bug IS a MC bug game/worldwide.

BTW look at the RS and String Obsidian Generator before 1.8. It was a bug and they fixed it, but look how long it took to fix... I mean that feature bug/exploit has been like the whole MC life(it was possible in 1.2, don't remember before that because didn't play before that, but that was 2012!!!!)(until 1.8)...

So by stating that, you are making clear that mojang is inefficient in somethings, but MC is still a great game(i did a topic changer on purpose because you are comparing bananas with headphones =/ )

EDIT: so to answer your question, NO, it would have not been fixed if it were(and it is important, to some sector of the MC community)
  18. You also have to think, what does every Major Big Company do? When there is a bug, they tend to drag it on for ever. Look at windows 10, there are thousands of bugs, yet they don't do anything. Same with Most of the COD and GTA Games, there are Glitches to get through the map, go invisible, and so much more, but they focus on the more Major bugs that would cause game play to be subject to trouble, (Freezing, Account Profile Deletion {Like GTA V had}, and so much more....)

  19. Aikar, if you break my working 1.9 wither skeleton farm, I WILL leave EMC. I spent hours upon hours building this farm and digging out the area. This is not an auto kill farm. It requires player interaction to get heads and xp.
  20. Just for the record: the whole thing doesn't bother me the least, also because I sparsely use XP farms. However, all the ones I use(d) had one thing in common: you had to take action in order to obtain XP. Grab your steak and hit the Endermen in the legs with it, then nab all the XP orbs. The only ones where you could afk were grinders; then the mats would simply drop in.

Some of you make it sound as if farms are being nerfed in their entirety yet the only change is the XP aspect. You still get your items, so I don't quite understand all the commotion. I can understand how some people can get upset over this, trust me: You spend weeks to build something and all of a sudden it stopped working.

To be honest that concern is something I fully agree with. The information given out by EMC (the official terms on things) is sometimes a bit off. Meaning: to my knowledge there has never been any official statement regarding (automated) farms as we have now. And if there was one then it was way too burried under other stuff. I'm pretty sure that if players would have known some of these philosophies up front ("you only get rewarded for interaction, not from going afk") then we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

But on the other hand I also think its fair to say that nearly all of the XP farms work in the same way: mob drops nearly to its death, player comes along to finish it off and collect the XP. Within that thought I also think those changes aren't too unreasonable either.

Alas, there's one thing I'd like to comment on in particular:

Yet when it comes to 1.9 the most heard argument against it (see the Minecraft forums for yourself) is people wondering "Does Mojang actually play their own game or what?". And this doesn't only apply to 1.9. Many of their game changes were so braindead that any serious player could have seen their fail coming way up front, any player except Mojang.

So this argument doesn't quite cut it either. Its not as if everything Mojang does is solid and based on gameplay experiences.
